Medical marijuana advocate Mark Tucci addresses the Southshire Partnership for a Healthy Community in Bennington on Thursday. Group members, who are devoted to preventing substance abuse, questioned Tucci and Sen. Dick Sears, D-Bennington, about the Legislature’s decision to create medical marijuana dispensaries. Tucci offered assurances that Vermont, unlike other states, would tightly regulate the drug, and that communities would not be forced to host dispensaries. Said Sears, “The residents of Bennington County deserve to have access to a full range of treatment options, whether it is dialysis or a medical marijuana dispensary.” However, given Police Chief Paul Doucette’s opposition, Sears said he doubted the Bennington Select Board would agree to accept one, nor should it have to.
