A tour bus waits for a temporary traffic light to turn green Thursday on Route 67A in North Bennington. The state is working to improve a narrow bridge there that spans Paran Creek. VTrans estimates that it will cost $150,000 to repair the span, which was built in 1921. The work should take about a month.

Workmen cover freshly laid marble sidewalks Wednesday in Manchester Village. The project began about three weeks ago and is due to be completed, according to Neil Knapp, one of the subcontractors. In all, about 800 feet of sidewalk has been built along Route 7A.

Jeremiah Sylvester and his mother, Michelle Sylvester, were among the passengers Thursday who boarded the Green Mountain Express at the Pleasant Street stop in Bennington. They were headed to J.C. Penny's on a shopping expedition. Michelle Sylvester said she rode the bus about once a week.
